Biography

Mr. Ferguson retired with over 23 years of service as a national security professional with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He began his career as a Special Agent in September of 1996 where he was first assigned to the Chicago Field Office. It was there Mr. Ferguson acquired his passion and expertise for the development and handling of complex human source operations. Over the course of this assignment, he ran numerous high profile joint sources with other United States intelligence community partners.

In October of 2002, Mr. Ferguson began his journey into the Supervisory Special Agent ranks when he was promoted to FBI Headquarters in the newly formed Counterespionage Section. There he focused primarily on Iraqi counterespionage issues in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, helped assemble the FBI team that debriefed Saddam Hussain, and achieved prosecutorial success against those who had been acting in furtherance of the Saddam regime. Mr. Ferguson went on to serve in several other FBI leadership assignments to include being detailed to the Department of Homeland Security Headquarters, supervising the Joint Terrorism Task Force in the FBI’s Pittsburgh Field Office, and multiple other senior management positions within both the FBI Headquarters Counterintelligence Division as well as the Office of the Director of National Intelligence while he was detailed there as a senior staff officer. Mr. Ferguson regularly represented the counterintelligence community in high level meetings with policymakers, National Security Council Staff, Congressional Committee Staff and Commissions, and to seniors within the intelligence community. As a result, Mr. Ferguson developed an extensive professional network throughout the Beltway, as well as a deep understanding of the conduct of staff work within the most senior levels of government. His unique ability to explain complex and dynamic operational issues to policymakers, as well as translating the desired outcomes of policymakers to the counterintelligence, cyber, and counterterrorism operational communities allowed him to achieve national level strategic outcomes in both policy and operational channels.

Before entering on duty with the FBI, Mr. Ferguson was a police officer in Mentor, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and currently lives in the Washington, DC area with his wife and two sons.
